A modern pilgrim, Adam, has shared his personal experience of modern pilgrimage with us. We hope his account will inspire you to undertake a similar journey of self-discovery and transformation.
Adam’s Account
Hi! I’m Adam, and not too long ago, I was at a crossroads in life, unsure which direction to take. I felt lost, disconnected from my purpose, and desperately needed clarity. That’s when I decided to embark on the Camino de Santiago, a modern pilgrimage. It promised more than just a physical challenge—it offered a path to spiritual renewal.
The Call to the Camino

The Camino de Santiago, or the Way of St. James, is a network of ancient pilgrim routes, all leading to the shrine of the apostle Saint James in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Spain. I chose the French Way, starting from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in France, crossing the Pyrenees, and passing through historical cities like Pamplona, Burgos, and León.
The Journey Begins
As I set out on the Camino, each step felt like a conversation with my soul. The rhythmic walking pace allowed me to reflect on my life’s purpose and the values I held dear. The physical exertion of the trek mirrored the mental and emotional effort needed to confront my inner turmoil.
Encounters and Reflections
Along the way, I met fellow pilgrims from all walks of life, each with their own stories of seeking and finding. In Pamplona, I shared a meal with a retired couple who taught me about the beauty of lifelong companionship. In Burgos, I spent a night under the stars with young travelers who reminded me of the joy of living in the moment.

Overcoming Challenges
The Camino tested my resilience. There were days when my feet ached, and my spirit wavered. But with each challenge, I found new strength within me. I learned that the weight of my backpack was nothing compared to the weight of carrying unresolved questions about my life.

The Arrival
Reaching Santiago de Compostela was a moment of profound emotion. I had walked over 700 kilometers across Spain and simultaneously through the landscape of my own heart. I received the Compostela certificate, but the true reward was the sense of accomplishment and the spiritual clarity I had gained.
The Transformation
The Camino didn’t just give me answers, but it transformed how I viewed my life. I returned home with a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to live authentically, guided by the lessons learned on this sacred path.
